Have you ever noticed that some models move more gracefully than others? The fashion industry has become more competitive & serious dance backgrounds have a leg up. Coco Rocha, one of the top models to be featured on the runway this week, is one example. Ms. Rocha, 18, trained in ballet from age 4 and planned to become a professional dancer until she was spotted at an Irish dance competition in Vancouver, British Columbia, her hometown. Her dancing has helped her get cast. “If I had no training, I wouldn’t be where I am right now,” she said. “Modeling is a form of acting, in a way, and when I’m on the runway it’s really easy. It’s just like being on the stage.”
Dance and fashion have influenced each other since at least the days of the Ballets Russes in the early 20th century. But their work has been more for the theater than for the runway or newsstand. Similarly, there have been models with dance backgrounds before, but casting agents say they are more in demand than ever.
Dance & Fashion go hand in hand!!
